You know, for those of us who fell into this trap... we should hang out, and stuff.

Thank you for this! I wrote a similar post on how the fitness industry is constantly trying to convince you that you aren't doing enough, you aren't your fittest self. Honestly it's super exhausting to keep up with, whether it's fitness or productivity or even your skincare. Everything you said is so valid and so important ♡

I fell into the black hole of self-help when I was only fourteen! Looking back, I was young and unhappy. Thank you for sharing this, it healed something in me🤍

Unfortunately it's not limited to the internet. People at my workplace actually think these points are “helpful”

I absolutely adored this one! Thank you so much for sharing. I remember a time when I was completely addicted to self-help books. I read them all: the good (Big Magic), the bad (French Women Don't Get Fat), and so many more. The more I read, the more they began to sound like each other, and in some cases, they were becoming downright harmful (I'm looking at you, French Women DGF!) There are definitely some things I still do because it's genuinely good advice, or the habits I built are actually healthy and make me feel good. But now, I take everything with a grain of salt.

big magic is amazing!! i've been wanting to re-read it for the longest time. but yeah, i agree. i feel like self-help books, and self-help content in general, start to feel like an echo chamber after a while. that's why i stopped writing so much about digital minimalism - i felt like i got to a point where i was just saying the same things over and over again, and it wasn’t really helpful for me & anyone else.

also, the name of that book (french women don’t get fat) is insane what 😭

All of this because our incentive structures are built around endless growth and production.

We have inherited a system of thinking that asserts we are never enough because we are finite. Fallible. Therefore we can infinitely improve in X, Y, and Z. I don’t think we can ever escape this cycle of samsara, unless our Western models of society, culture, and economy, radically shift.

It is LIBERATING to remember we have the right to exist. To be lazy. To fuck off. To engage in vice. We do not have to be a certain way! It is all regurgitated nonsense. Our grandparents passed it onto our parents and our parents onto us. Years later we now dedicate hours of screen time to learn how to lessen our screen time.

All we need to do is remember this inherent freedom of existence. The fact that no structure or boundary needs to be imposed on us. This post takes a forward step in helping us remember this truth. Cheers!

First of all you’re brilliant. I’m

In awe. Once I learned that perfectionism was a survival strategy, everything in my life made a lot more sense. LOVE this post 💗

This was such an important post. Honestly, I have experienced so much more growth, improvement, and peace by coming from a place of grace than from the intense, aggressive perfectionism I used to have in the past. I do value discipline and diligence, but I also understand that perfection is not a standard we can meet on our own, and to torture ourselves to do so is incredibly draining.
